Dinghy Sailing

Length: Class meets once a week for 2 weeks. Total of 8 hours of instruction.

Equipment Used: RS Feva: 14ft dinghy, CFJ: 14ft. dinghy

Cost: $140 for Community Members

Free for currently enrolled CI students

The Intermediate Dinghy class is designed for sailors who have a good practical understanding of the topics taught in the Beginning Dinghy Sailing class.  Students will build their skills in broader weather and wind conditions that will allow students to further develop boat handling skills and theoretical knowledge of sailing.  This is a great path for students interested in racing.

  • Water conditions awareness, understanding of tides and currents, physics of sailing, sail trim, weight balance, hiking technique, right of way, teamwork and onboard communication.

 

Keelboat Sailing

Length: The class meets once a week for 2 weeks. Total of 8 hours of instruction.

Equipment Used: RS Venture: 16ft keelboat, or RS 21: 21ft. keelboat

Cost: $140 for Community Members

Free for currently enrolled CI students

The Intermediate Keelboat class is similar to the intermediate Dinghy Sailing class but on a larger platform.  Perfect for students looking to increase their "big boat" boat handling and communication skill with others onboard.  The class will explore the multiple roles and responsibilities of the crew and the forces on the boat that make the boat go slow/fast.

  • Sailing topics such as water conditions awareness, understanding of tides and currents, physics of sailing, sail trim, weight balance, hiking technique, right of way, teamwork, and onboard communication.
