Summer Watersports General Information

Location:

Channel Islands Boating Center (CIBC): 3880 Bluefin Cir. Oxnard CA 93035. The CIBC will not take responsibility for children who have been dropped off at a different location.

Check-in will be in the front of the CIBC at the flag poles

Check-out will be at the front of the Boating Center inside the Boatyard

Hours:

The Watersports Camp starts at 9:00 a.m. and ends by 3:30 p.m.

*Check in time at the front of the Boating Center by the flag poles: 8:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.

*Check out time at the front of the Boating Center inside the boatyard: 3:15 p.m. - 3:45 p.m.

*Friday’s: Your child can be picked up as early as 2:00 p.m.

Late pick up policy:

The Watersports Camp closes promptly at 4:00 p.m. daily. A late pick-up policy has been established to ensure staff and student safety. After 4:00 p.m. pick-up time is considered late. Parents/guardians are charged a fee. We cannot stress enough the importance of picking your child up no later than 3:45 p.m. each day of Camp.

Please remember to label all your child’s belongings:

Sun Protection: Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses
Small bag or backpack to keep items together
A towel
Dress in layers: the weather can tend to be cool during the summer months in Oxnard, dressing in layers of clothes is advised!
- For being on land: Sweater/ jacket
- For being on the water: Bathing suit, shirt for sun protection, sandals or water shoes
Extra change of clothes for the ride home ( if clothes get get)
Food and Water: Reusable water bottle, lunch and snacks*
- *There is a water bottle fill station on site

*There is no refrigeration or microwave available.

What should my child leave at home?

It is strongly encouraged to leave valuables at home.
Cell phones and other electronic devices are not permitted at camp.
The CIBC is NOT responsible for the lost/stolen items during camp.
All belongings should be marked with the camper’s name. PLEASE check the lost and found box periodically, located near the checkout table in the Boatyard.

Program Rules/ Behavior Expectations

The Program rules are intended to keep all campers safe, in an enriching and engaging environment. A Watersports participant demonstrates the following characteristics: Responsibility, Respect, Self-Discipline, and Honesty. Participants are expected to follow these characteristics during the program. It is the participant’s responsibility to follow directions from their instructors at all times.

Evaluations

We care about your child’s experience at camp and request your feedback, along with any suggestions you may have. Surveys will be available to you and your child towards the end of each week.

Cancellation and Changes

Cancellation of Watersport Program by the University: The University reserves the right to cancel watersport activities due to unsafe weather conditions, aggressive or unruly marine wildlife on or near the boating center dock, or any other anticipated or unforeseen situation that could compromise the safety of watersport participants and/or boating center staff and volunteers. Activity cancellation may occur with little or no notice as weather, marine, and wildlife conditions are in flux. Refunds will not be issued.

We will do our best to communicate any changes as soon as possible. Any communication sent out regarding changes to the Watersports Program will be communicated through email from your registration form.

I need to pick up my child early or drop them off later

Please notify us as soon as possible if you will be dropping off later or picking your child up earlier. Due to the nature of the programming, it may take some extra time for us to coordinate getting your child back in or out of their activity. Front Desk - cibc@csuci.edu 805-437-2081

I want to watch my child while they are on the water. Where can I do this?

Once the camp day has begun, we ask that all parents/guardians leave the boatyard for safety reasons. If you want to observe your camper, please do not enter the dock. Instead, you can follow the sidewalk to the Maritime Museum that overlooks our dock and watch from there. This also applies if you arrive early for pickup and your child is not in the boatyard yet.
